Change in colour of Stihl 2 stroke oil???
#1 Post by RX MIDGET » Fri Feb 07, 2014 7:35 pm
Hi, time has come to purchase more Stihl premix 2 stroke oil and I see it is typically red in colour now. Don't use that much (only drive 1000 ks a year) and the last Stihl I bought was blue in colour.
Is there any issue with using red Stihl oil?

Thanks...
Has anyone used the red oil? Is there any reason I should not use it?

I've been using the Stihl 2-stroke since '95, and it's always been red as far as I remember.. Just my2c, might be different in Au; i'm sure someone will let you know.

always blue here in victoria. having said that it's just a dye right? can't see it having any effect whether it's blue or red.

OK, just visited the Stihl store in Islington (Newcastle) where all was explained...
The BLUE oil is made by Castrol (already know this) - to Stihl specifications and is being phased out. The RED is made by Stihl (NOT Castrol) with the same specifications.
In short, you will not be able to purchase blue Stihl in the very near future.
